Appropriate Use Policy
Summary: The Urbana Acceptable Use Policy specifically names the Office of the Chief Information Officer as responsible for determining when university systems, networks, and other resources are being used in a non-compliant or insecure manner, and the university authorizes that office to remove network access and where appropriate, to notify campus or legal authorities.
Applies to: Anyone using the university network.

Information Security
Summary: The Information Security Policy is a directive from the university leadership to adhere to the university-published information security standards and controls. The standards are managed and approved by the respective university Chief Information Officers.
Applies to: Anyone who accesses data or university networks or who stores data through the use of university credentials or under the authority of and pursuant to university contracts (“University Community Members”).

Digital Accessibility Policy
Summary: The university is committed to ensuring equal access to information, programs, and activities through use of its IT for all members of the campus community. This policy establishes the standards for digital accessibility of Information and Communications Technology to ensure that technologies developed, procured, maintained, used, or provided by the university comply with applicable state and federal laws.
Applies to: Anyone who providing an IT or communications interface with students, faculty, staff or the public.

Data and privacy policies
EU and UK General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)
Summary: The EU and UK GDPR regulate how organizations collect, use, store, share, and secure personal data, while granting individuals rights such as access, correction, deletion, and objection.
Applies to: University faculty, staff, students, contractors, and partners when handling personal information about people in the EU or UK, including in some cases when the university is located elsewhere.
Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA)
Summary: The Personal Information Protection Act specifically requires public universities, such as the University of Illinois, and other data collectors to notify affected individuals whenever a breach of the security of the data collector’s system data occurs.
Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL)
Summary: China’s Personal Information Protection Law regulates how organizations collect, use, store, transfer, and disclose personal data. It gives individuals rights over their data, imposes security and cross-border-transfer obligations on processors, and applies extraterritorially to certain organizations serving or monitoring people in China.
Applies to: A person or data subject and the university handles your personal information inside China OR a person or data subject physically located in China and the university handles your personal information outside of China.
